A little Update...

We have been finding out more information about our PCS to Aviano...some good, some bad. We figured we'd share a little of what we've learned with you. First off, we will be there for four years (until March 2013), so there's PLENTY of time for you to visit, if you want. We will probably be living in a small apartment or hotel for a few months, because it takes a while to get housing there. Supposedly there are no air conditioners (even though it gets hot and humid) or dish washers, and their washers and dryers don't run well and cost a lot to operate. People hand-wash a lot. Businesses keep "odd" hours and you have to be flexible about when you shop. There are no closets in the houses; I have been going through all of our stuff getting rid of TONS of unnecessary stuff. Aside from those drawbacks, everyone seems to LOVE it there. We are SO excited! Logan knows all of the basic colors in Italian! We're learning Italian together and it's been really fun!

Still sounds exciting, Nells. There were no real closets in our houses back in Germany either, if you remember, that's why we had all those armoires (portable closets). I'm sure once you're on base you'll have a washer and dryer that works. As for the business hours, ya, you'll get used to it. When do you leave exactly? Are you taking your car, or will you buy something there? You'll have a blast! Love ya!

Josh, we'll leave in March. Yeah, we're taking our Impala over there; we lover her! :o) We may have to buy a van if we end up having 4 kids, but we'll put 3 in the back; it's really roomy. They don't have "on base housing," it's government housing throughout the area. You should come for a visit!

Hey Nells,

That's pretty cool you'll be there for awhile. I would say you may get homesick, and you might, but you guys have been way out there in Texas for some time now and are probably used to being away from family. Which isn't to say it's easy. I'm excited for your adventure. Everyone needs some adventure in their lives and I'm glad you'll get to have your kids grow up in Italy for awhile. How fun! The church is really small there is at all existing. I remember traveling through and the members held meetings in their homes. That was northern Italy, I couldn't even find the church in southern italy, although we didn't try all that hard. But be prepared for lots of callings. :)
That's great you are teaching Logan lots of words in italian. Get ready to fully immerse yourself and you will love it.
